FEEDs. The purpose of a FEED is to develop the Outlines for a Project with the necessary information to establish a basis to proceed. Engineering must be undertaken in sufficient detail to establish the process, the minimum equipment requirements, layout etc and cost and timing.  The scope of FEED work and its depth is conditioned to the needs of sufficiency to make a decision on the following Detail Engineering and is made case by case.  The examples below illustrate elements of FEED Studies.  Some studies are about concept and concept alone e.g. the referenced WIV study.  The concepts explored were "what would the vessel be used for i.e., wire line support only or include ROV services" and what make up should the vessel itself have.  The purpose of the FEED was part of an investigation into the viability of WIV ownership.  Another example is Khuffe FEED.  Its purpose was to establish the viability of additional field platforms.  In order to keep project schedule it would be immediately necessary on starting detail engineering to place long lead items on order.  Because of this fact the FEED included the Detailed Specification for Purchase of the long lead items
